2018 Winner of the Paky Lifetime Recognition Award

Patricia MacKay

The Paky Lifetime Recognition award is given to individuals who have made a significant contribution to lighting and / or video design and is voted on by members of the KOI committee.

On this, the 30th anniversary of the LDI exhibition, the KOI committee unanimously decided to name Patricia MacKay as the recipient of the Paky Lifetime Recognition Award for 2018. As founder of the LDI exhibition and editor and publisher of Theatre Crafts and Lighting Dimensions magazines, the forerunners of Live Design, Mackay was responsible for building the North American entertainment production industry’s leading showcase vehicles. As the founder of ETECH, the industry’s first online news platform, McKay was also a pioneer of the digital revolution, and has continued her involvement with the industry as a Fellow of the USITT.

American members of the KOI committee strongly supported Patricia’s nomination. John Featherstone (2018 Concert Touring & Events judges’ chair) noted: “Lighting Dimensions played a pivotal role in my defining what I wanted to do with my life, just as it has for so many. Combining that with Patricia’s tireless work with Live Design, LDI, USITT… the list goes on and on – it is only fitting for her to be the first recipient of the Paky Lifetime Achievement Award.”
